Make Your Bed and Clean Your Closet

Hej, ordningens vän (hello, friend of order in Swedish), welcome to your Good Soul Daily for Tuesday, April 28, 2026, where today we’re celebrating something surprisingly joyful (half kidding)… the beauty of being organized. I’ve always loved the “make your bed” commencement speech, the idea that starting your day with one small act of order sets the tone for everything that follows. And while I’d love to tell you that every corner of my life reflects that level of discipline… let’s just say I have a closet here, a cabinet there, a basement corner, a utility room, and yes, even my office closet at the studio that could use a little love. I'm working in it, them and lil ol' me. I do believe everyone needs a “catch-all” space, a place where life can land for a moment and be random and windy, but even that chaos deserves some structure. I want to sorta know where my things are. I want to feel that sense of calm when I open a drawer, not confusion. So yesterday, I finally started with my closet. Nothing major, no full overhaul, just small, intentional steps. And with Manny cheering me on from the sidelines, I have to tell you… it made me so happy. I'll do a second and third pass through and pull more things that I know I'll never wear, but I'm having trouble parting with. And so it goes....

There is something deeply satisfying about creating order in your space, because it creates order in your mind. As I stood there, reorganizing, letting go, putting things back with purpose, I felt lighter. Clearer. More in control in the best possible way. And the best part? I didn’t overwhelm myself. I didn’t try to do it all in one day. I just started. And now I’m actually excited to get home and tackle the drawers. Can you say, winning at life? Because life is a work in progress, and when we allow ourselves to take baby steps instead of trying to conquer everything at once, we create momentum without the stress.

And maybe that’s the real takeaway today. Organization isn’t about perfection, it’s about intention. It’s about giving yourself the gift of clarity, one small space at a time. So wherever you feel a little cluttered, physically or mentally, start there. One drawer, one shelf, one corner. Let it be enough. Let it feel good. Because when you shift your perspective from “I have so much to do” to “I get to create a space that supports me,” everything changes, and that is how we build a life that feels both peaceful and beautifully in progress. LOVE YOU GUYS!  Have a GREAT Tuesday!
