NEW TO GOOD SOUL?

Don't Sweat It. Actually, DO Sweat It. That's Kind of the Point!

16 Things You Should Know Before Your First Class at Good Soul Yoga

Nervous? Curious? Wondering if you're flexible enough, fit enough, or brave enough to survive an hour in a hot room?

Relax, sunshine. We've got you!

At Good Soul, we believe movement is for EVERYBODY. Every age, every shape, every size, every fitness level, and every temperature preference. Whether you're interested in hot yoga, warm yoga, non-heated classes, or indoor cycling, there's a place for you here.

No experience necessary. No pressure. No judgment. Just good people doing good things for their bodies, minds, and souls.

1. HOW HOT IS HOT? ARE WE TALKING SAUNA OR SURFACE OF THE SUN?

We've got a temperature for just about everybody!

  • 105°F — HOT, HOT, HOT! Bring on the serious sweat.

  • 100°F — STILL PLENTY TOASTY! Turn up the heat and get moving.

  • 95°F — A LITTLE LESS SIZZLE! Plenty warm, plenty wonderful.

  • 85–90°F — NICE AND WARM! A little heat without going full tropical.

  • NON-HEATED — KEEP YOUR COOL! All the goodness of yoga without the added heat.

And here's something important: Humidity makes a BIG difference!

Our Hot 26, Power Vinyasa, and Inferno Hot Pilates classes are the ONLY classes where we add humidity. That extra moisture in the air slows the evaporation of sweat, making the room feel even hotter.

The good news? You get to choose your own adventure!

2. WHAT SHOULD I BRING? BESIDES MY FABULOUS SELF?

Three essentials:

  • A yoga mat.

  • A yoga mat towel BIG enough to cover your entire mat. Trust us, you're going to want it!

  • A bottle of water. Hydration is your new best friend.

A small face towel and a fresh change of clothes are great additions.

Forgot your mat or towel? No sweat! We offer rentals for just $2 for a yoga mat and $2 for a towel.

Leave your worries, expectations, and need to impress anybody at the door.

3. WHAT THE HECK DO I WEAR?

Whatever you can comfortably move and sweat in!

Shorts, leggings, tank tops, sports bras, T-shirts. You do you! Lightweight, breathable clothing is your friend, and bare feet are the usual uniform for yoga.

This is not a fashion show. Nobody cares if your outfit matches, your hair is messy, or your leggings have seen better days.

We're here for the yoga, not the runway.

4. WAIT, YOU HAVE INDOOR CYCLING TOO?

Oh, we sure do! And it's a wheel-y good time!

Hop on one of our indoor cycling bikes for a fun, heart-pumping ride with great music, great energy, and absolutely nowhere you have to pedal to!

Here's the scoop on shoes:

  • Regular athletic sneakers? Perfect! You're ready to ride.

  • Cycling shoes? Our pedals accommodate SPD clips (two-bolt cleats).

  • Peloton shoes? Hold your handlebars! Standard Peloton Delta cleats are NOT compatible with our pedals.

And just like everything else at Good Soul, you ride at YOUR pace. Turn up the resistance, dial it back, catch your breath. You're in control!

No traffic. No hills you can't conquer. Just good music, good people, and a whole lot of Good Soul energy.

5. DO I NEED TO KNOW YOGA? BECAUSE I DON'T.

PERFECT! We LOVE beginners!

Nobody was born knowing Downward Dog. Our teachers will guide you, offer modifications, and help you find your groove.

You don't have to touch your toes.

You don't even have to SEE your toes.

You just have to show up.

6. WHAT IF EVERYBODY IS BETTER THAN ME?

Better at WHAT? Sweating?

There are no judges, no scores, no competitions, and absolutely no gold medals for standing on your head.

Good Soul is a proudly nonjudgmental, noncompetitive, no-pressure environment.

Some people have been practicing for 20 years. Some people are figuring out which end of the mat goes where.

We love them all.

And nobody is watching you. They're too busy concentrating on themselves!

7. WHAT IF I CAN'T KEEP UP?

Then DON'T!

Seriously. Take a break. Sit down. Lie down. Breathe. Skip a pose. Modify a pose.

Resting is part of yoga, not a sign that you're doing it wrong.

We encourage you to listen to your body, not your ego. If you're dizzy, faint, nauseated, or overheated, leave the hot room, cool down, and let your teacher know.

You are ALWAYS in charge of your own practice.

8. WHY IS HOT YOGA SO DARN GOOD FOR YOU?

Oh, honey, where do we begin?

A regular yoga practice can offer some pretty wonderful benefits:

  • Strength: Build muscle strength and stability using your own body weight.

  • Flexibility: Improve your range of motion and loosen up those stiff muscles.

  • Balance: Improve coordination and stability, which become especially valuable as we age.

  • Stress relief: Slow your breathing, quiet your mind, and give your nervous system a much-needed break.

  • Better sleep: Regular yoga may help improve sleep quality.

  • Heart health: Yoga can support cardiovascular wellness, and heated classes add an extra challenge for your body.

  • Mental clarity: Practice being present instead of mentally rewriting your grocery list.

  • Mood: Many people leave class feeling calmer, happier, and more energized.

The heat can make movement feel more comfortable and adds a cardiovascular and temperature-regulation challenge. But hotter isn't automatically healthier, and you don't need heat to enjoy yoga's benefits.

9. AM I REALLY GOING TO SWEAT THAT MUCH?

Oh, sweetie. YES!

Some people glisten. Some people drip. Some people look like they've just climbed out of a swimming pool.

All perfectly normal!

Sweating helps your body cool itself. And although sweating feels cleansing, your liver and kidneys do the actual detoxifying.

Nobody is looking at your sweat puddle. They're too busy making their own.

10. SHOULD I EAT OR DRINK BEFORE CLASS?

Hydrate throughout the day, not just five minutes before you walk through the door.

Avoid a big, heavy meal immediately before class. A light snack is fine if you need one.

Bring that water bottle, take sips when needed, and replenish fluids afterward. Electrolytes can be helpful after particularly sweaty sessions.

Come nourished, not stuffed. Hydrated, not waterlogged.

11. DO YOU HAVE SHOWERS AND LOCKER ROOMS?

YOU BET YOUR SWEATY LITTLE SELF WE DO!

Good Soul has full-service locker rooms and showers, so you can freshen up, change, and return to civilization looking like you didn't just spend an hour in a tropical rainforest.

We love the whole ritual:

Sweat it out. Stretch it out. Rinse it off. Start fresh.

After class, cool down, enjoy a refreshing rinse, and slip into some clean clothes. Showering doesn't increase the physiological benefits of your workout, but washing away the sweat can make the experience feel even more restorative.

Think of it as your own little reset button.

Walk in carrying the weight of the world. Walk out feeling a whole lot lighter.

12. HOW EARLY SHOULD I GET THERE?

For your first visit, arrive about 15 minutes early.

We want to meet you, show you around, introduce you to your teacher, and help you settle in.

No frantic rushing. No wondering where to put your shoes. No awkwardly wandering around holding a yoga mat like a lost tourist.

And don't worry, we were all new once!

13. WHAT IF HOT YOGA JUST ISN'T MY THING?

Then welcome to our NOT HOT ROOM!

That's right! Good Soul offers non-heated classes, too.

Whether you're looking for a serious sweat, a little warmth, or a completely non-heated experience, there's a place for you here.

You can explore different classes and find what feels best for YOUR body.

HOT OR NOT — YOGA FOR EVERYBODY!

14. IS HOT YOGA SAFE FOR EVERYBODY?

Hot yoga can be wonderful, but heat isn't right for everyone.

If you're brand new, consider starting with a non-heated or moderately heated class and working your way up.

If you're pregnant or have heart problems, heat intolerance, or a medical condition that could make exercising in high temperatures risky, check with your healthcare professional first.

And remember, yoga should challenge you, not punish you.

15. WILL I FEEL SORE AFTER MY FIRST CLASS?

Maybe a little! You may discover muscles you didn't even know you owned.

Some mild muscle soreness after trying something new is perfectly normal. Give yourself time to recover, drink water, get some rest, and keep moving gently.

And remember, soreness isn't a requirement for progress. You don't have to hurt to get healthier.

The goal is to feel GOOD, Soul!

16. WHAT'S THE CATCH? WHY DOES EVERYBODY KEEP COMING BACK?

Here's the funny thing.

People often walk into their first hot yoga class wondering what on earth they've gotten themselves into.

Then something happens.

They start getting comfortable with the heat. They begin noticing their strength. Their flexibility improves. Their minds get quieter. They start looking forward to that wonderful feeling after class.

And before you know it, the thing they were most nervous about becomes one of their favorite parts of the day.

People often say hot yoga is addictive. We prefer to call it a healthy habit you just might fall in love with.

But here's the best part.

They come for the yoga.

They stay for the people.

And somewhere along the way, they discover a little more of themselves.

THE BOTTOM LINE?

You don't need a yoga body. You already have one.

You don't need to be flexible. That's one of the reasons you're coming.

You don't need experience. You just need curiosity.

You don't need to be perfect. You just need to be YOU.

Come as you are. Sweat as you are. Leave feeling a little more like yourself.
