Digital Detox

Cześć, jasna głowo (hello, bright mind in Polish), welcome to your Good Soul Daily for Wednesday, April 29, 2026.  Today we’re talking about something that feels very modern, very real, and honestly…hard to handle...a digital detox. So my daughter Molly gave up TikTok for Lent, and like most of us when we give something up, I think she expected to just “get through it.” But here’s this is the interesting part...she went back after Lent ended and realized how amazing she felt without it so she stayed off. And I have to tell you, I was equal parts impressed and called out. She claims she’s more productive, more present, and just feels better overall. And when you look at the numbers, it makes sense. The average person spends over 90 minutes a day on TikTok alone, and when you factor in Reels, YouTube Shorts, and all the other scrollable distractions, we’re talking hours of our lives being gobbled up without us even realizing it. I’m not a regular TikTok girl, but give me a cozy couch and Facebook Reels and suddenly I’m on minute 47 of “just one more video.” It’s wild how quickly it pulls you in. My most recent addiction is cop videos with people getting busted.  What's with that?

But here’s the cool part. When you step away, even just a little, you start to reclaim something you didn’t realize you were losing like your time, your focus, your creativity, your presence. Molly noticed it right away. Now she is studying to be a doctor so this is important stuff!  With less scrolling, she gets more done, less distracted, more intentional with her day. And it got me thinking about how often we say we don’t have time for the things we want to do, when in reality, some of that time is just being… borrowed by our phones. Not in a shameful way, just in a very real, very human way. These platforms are designed to keep us there, to entertain us, to hook us, and Jeez they do a very good job.

So maybe today isn’t about quitting everything cold turkey, unless you want it to be, but maybe it’s about awareness. Maybe it’s about catching yourself mid-scroll and asking, “Is this how I want to spend this moment?” Maybe it’s about setting a boundary, taking a break, or even just choosing to be a little more intentional with your time. Because there is so much life waiting for you outside of that screen, and when you give yourself even a small detox, you might be surprised at how much lighter, clearer, and more alive you feel, and that is a trade worth making. Have a FANTASTIC Wednesday!
